Everest Base Camp private tour: why the pace is yours

An Everest Base Camp private tour changes one thing that matters at 5,364 m: nobody else sets the schedule. The trek takes 12 to 14 days from Lukla and back, including acclimatisation, with spare days on top. If symptoms of altitude sickness persist, you do not go higher, whatever the plan says. In a private party that call belongs to you and your guide, so a rest day costs nobody else a day.

The spare days matter at the end as well. Flights out of Lukla are delayed by weather, and a party of two or three can simply use the buffer instead of fitting around a larger group. The three options below cover a trek that starts in Lukla, a longer trek built for couples and a one-hour flight along the range. All prices are per person, from October 2026.

The 11-day private trek from Lukla

This trek starts in Lukla and runs 11 days to 5,364 m and back. It covers ten nights in lodges, at Lukla, Phakding and Namche Bazaar (three nights), then Tengboche, Dingboche (two nights), Pheriche, Lobuche and Gorak Shep, plus a licensed English-speaking trek leader. For more than 12 trekkers an assistant guide joins. The price also pays the Sagarmatha National Park permit, the Khumbu local fees and government taxes, and the wages, meals and insurance of the guides and porters. A first aid kit travels with the guide, and the operator helps arrange a rescue if you need one, funded by your travel insurance. Food and drinks for you are bought on the way.

At $466 per person for 11 days, it works out at about $42 a day. It is the lower-priced of the two treks and suits friends or a family who want the whole route to themselves.

The 12-day private trek for couples

This is the fullest package here. It starts with a private pickup at Tribhuvan International Airport and a transfer to your hotel, and it includes 14 breakfasts, 13 lunches and 13 dinners with seasonal fruit every day. Guide and permits are covered, and a second guide joins parties of five or more. One porter carries the bags of two trekkers, up to 18 kg in total. Each person gets a sleeping bag and a down jacket, an oximeter and a first aid kit come along, and there is a pre-trek briefing, a completion certificate and a farewell gathering in Kathmandu.

The price is $1,600 per person, which is about $133 a day, and the gap to the first trek is mostly meals, porters and airport pickups. Visa fees (USD 50 for 30 days), travel insurance, international flights and hotel nights in Kathmandu are not part of it. Choose it if you want one operator to handle everything from the airport on.

A private flight transfer instead of a trek

If you have a day rather than two weeks, the one-hour mountain flight comes with a private hotel transfer and an English-speaking driver. You get a window seat and a certificate. At $179 per person it costs $19 more than the flight listed without the transfer package. Tips and meals are extra.

Private or small group: when sharing is the better choice

A guided small-group trek lowers the price when you do not need the schedule to yourself. If you travel alone and your dates are flexible, a group departure is the cheaper way to walk. See all of them on our Everest Base Camp tours page.

Private Everest Base Camp trek: questions answered

How much does a private Everest Base Camp trek cost?

The private options here start at $466 per person for 11 days from Lukla and reach $1,600 per person for the 12-day couples trek with meals, porters and airport pickup. One operator quotes $1,800 to $3,000 for private treks in 2026, so the couples trek sits below that range.

Can I do a private tour with just two people?

Yes. The couples trek is built for two, and the 11-day trek adds an assistant guide only for more than 12 trekkers. Prices are per person, so two people pay twice the figure shown.

Are meals included?

On the couples trek, yes: 14 breakfasts, 13 lunches and 13 dinners. On the 11-day trek you buy food and drinks yourself. Read the inclusion list for the flight to Lukla before you book, because it is a separate line in many offers.

How long should I book?

Plan 11 to 12 days on the trail and add one or two spare days at the end, since flights from Lukla are delayed by weather.
